Q: Where do you get your wax? A: As the need for scrap wax has grown, ReCandle Company has placed ads on craigslist and freecycle with great results. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Albany Oregon has a collection area for candle scrap wax and containers of scrap wax. Burcham's Metals is in the process of putting into place a collection area for recycling old candles and scrap wax. If you would like to do something good for the environment and recycle your scrap wax, these two venues are a great resource. You can also email us at sales@yahoo.com and we will make arrangements with you to get the wax.
Q: Do you scent your candles? A: The answer to that is yes, if the original scrap wax isn't already scented. Most of our wax is gently scented, while some of the wax needs to have the scent enhanced. We don't scent wax too heavily except when making our melting tarts. We create our candles for their flame and decorating ambiance first, and their scent second.
Q: What is the burn time on your candles? A: We're sorry to say that we can't calculate exact burn times given the fact that the waxes we use, are exclusively recycled wax. We couldn't conclusively place statistics on burn time when several different waxes may be used in one candle. However, we are sure that you will have many hours of candle burn time!
Q: Why does my group of three or more candles on one candle plate burn so poorly? A: Candles should be placed at least three inches apart from one another. This is to be sure they don't melt one another, or create their own drafts that will cause the candles to burn improperly. If you want to display and burn candles together make sure their distance is far enough apart so as not to drip on each other.
Q: Why does the flame seem so small when the wick gets down low in my pillar candles? A: This occurs because the flame isn't getting enough oxygen to make it burn correctly. If you remove the excess wax above the wick, essentially making the candle shorter, it will burn properly.
Q: My candle doesn't seem as brightly colored as it was. What happened? A: You need to limit your candles' exposure to direct light/sunlight because it can quickly fade them. When not in use, store your candles in a cool, dark, dry place and be sure to store them upright to prevent warping.
